Evidence Action: From AI Curiosity to Organizational Clarity

Evidence Action partnered with Clarinet to bring focus and alignment to their AI adoption efforts

Client Snapshot

  • Company: Evidence Action
  • Industry: Nonprofit
  • Team Size: ~1000 employees
  • Headquarters: Globally Distributed

Evidence Action entered their AI adoption journey with strong interest in AI but fragmented efforts. As a global organization with a diverse employee base, they needed a way to set a "stake in the ground" regarding their AI focus and alignment across the leadership team.

"We were overwhelmed with where to even start," says Chief People Officer, Anne Iden. "We knew we needed to choose a platform and get training and adoption up and running, but we needed a way to ensure the leadership team was all on the same page."

The Solution: A Phased Approach to Adoption

To bring focus and alignment to their AI adoption efforts, Evidence Action partnered with Clarinet to build a structured, phased approach — one designed to align leadership first, then scale across the organization.

Clarinet provided support through three key programs:

  • Advisory & Decision Support: Clarinet helped the leadership team navigate the "AI spectrum" to define the organization's directional guidance for AI use internally and how to balance experimentation with security.
  • AI Foundations for Leaders: A cascade of training starting with the Global Leadership Team (8 members) and moving to the Leadership Peer Group (50 members). The sessions created a "floor and a ceiling" for what AI could and couldn't do, giving the team a unified vocabulary for strategic discussions.
  • Organizational Opportunity Spotting: Moving from theory to practice by identifying high-leverage AI workflows. One of the core principles adopted was "starting where things are already breaking"—focusing on repetitive, "annoying" tasks rather than seeing AI as a separate, additive initiative. “I hear people refer back to this session. I think it formed a foundation for focusing on day-to-day pain points and how solving them with AI can be integrated into our work,” says Anne.

Anne chose Clarinet because, “We valued application-based training that resonated with our team. We needed something quick, nimble, and values-aligned.” In reflecting on the initial programs delivered, Anne adds, “I really appreciated the flexibility and responsiveness—the sense that Clarinet was a true thought partner, always willing to hop on a call to find ways to be supportive."

The Results: A Catalyst for Org-Wide AI Adoption

With Clarinet, Evidence Action moved from fragmented AI activity toward a more deliberate adoption approach. Anne described the engagement this way:

“Working with Clarinet accelerated our thinking and supported the leadership team with alignment in order to make strategic decisions around AI usage.”

Following the engagement, they’ve begun embedding "technology and innovation usage" into their global competency framework, ensuring AI adoption is integrated into their work. They established AI Champions in the U.S., Africa, and India to lead regional office hours and reinforcement sessions.

Evidence Action has also set a company-wide stretch target of 100% weekly active use among Claude license holders — a tangible marker of the AI adoption behavior change they're committed to driving.
